Inferring Traffic Flow Characteristics from Aggregated-Flow Measurement

چکیده
In the Internet, statistical perspective of global traffic flows has been considered as an important key to network management. Nonetheless, it is expensive or sometime difficult to measure statistics of each flow separately. Therefore it is of practical importance to infer unobservable statistical characteristics of flows from characteristics of the aggregated-flows which are easily measured at some links (router interfaces) in the network. In this paper, we propose a new approach to such inference problems, and provide some examples of inferring unobservable arrival rates of packets on each flow from measurement of the aggregated-flows. Our method is applicable to the cases not covered by the existing methods for the OD traffic matrix inference. We also show simulation results, which indicate potential of our approach.

Adaptive Online Traffic Flow Prediction Using Aggregated Neuro Fuzzy Approach
Short term prediction of traffic flow is one of the most essential elements of all proactive traffic control systems. Although various methodologies have been applied to forecast traffic parameters, several researchers have showed that compared with the individual methods, hybrid methods provide more accurate results . These results made the hybrid tools and approaches a more common method for ...

The purpose of this study was to investigate traffic flow characteristics at off-ramp junctions in Iranian expressways. The study was conducted on the traffic behavior in isolated off-ramp vicinity of 6-lane expressways. The database consisted of traffic flow and traffic speed information extracted from videotapes. The relationship between diverging traffic flow in the right lane of expressway ...
متن کاملInferring Arrival Rate Statistics of Individual Flows from Aggregated-flow Rate Measurements
For a statistical perspective of global traffic flows on a large network, the authors have proposed a method for inferring unobservable arrival rate statistics of individual flows based solely on measurements of the aggregated-flow rates, which can be easily measured at some network links such as router interfaces. The above method, while having potential for inferring arrival rate statistics o...
متن کاملInferring Congestion Sharing and Path Characteristics from Packet Interarrival Times
This paper presents new non-intrusive measurement techniques to detect sharing of upstream congestion and discover bottleneck router link speeds. Our techniques are completely passive and require only arrival times of packets and flow identifiers. Our technique for detecting shared congestion is based upon the observation that an aggregated arrival trace from flows that share a bottleneck has v...
متن کاملEvaluation of Methods for Computing Free-Flow Speed and Its Significance in the HCM 2010; Case Study: A Ramp-Weaving Segment
The core methodology of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) 2010 for freeway analyses is based on Free-Flow Speed (FFS). Moreover, weaving segments are major elements of freeway facilities that form where two one-way traffic streams intersect by merging and diverging maneuvers. Hence, this study used three different methods to compute FFS of a ramp-weaving segment, and then employed the proposed ...
